What is a

Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)?

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) career is in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). The RBT is a position created and credentialed by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).

RBTs assist in delivering behavior analysis services by working directly with clients of all ages & abilities. Services may include treating behaviors that can hinder an individual's independence or personal success. These behaviors may include serious maladaptive behaviors such as physical or verbal aggression, fear, or refusing to engage in essential activities.  They may also include unhealthy behaviors such as procrastination, disorganization, poor eating or sleeping habits, or smoking.

RBTs also teach skills to replace these behaviors with adaptive alternatives.  These desired skills improve the individual’s quality of life and make one more productive, healthy, & independent. These skills may include increased exercise, healthy eating, self-management and control, or improved study habits.

RBTs practice under the direction and close supervision of a qualified board certified behavior analyst.
